The Korea Mountaineering Federation announced that it will hold the 2023 IFSC Seoul Sports Climbing Youth World Championship at the Seoul Mountain Culture Experience Center for 10 days from the 18th to the 27th with the International Sports Climbing Federation (IFSC).

Hosted by the Korea Mountain Federation and IFSC, the sponsorship competition will be sponsored by the Seoul Metropolitan Government, officially sponsored by Shinhan Financial Group, North Face, Climbing Korea, Imo Live, and OKF, and sponsored by Butora, Magma and SM CLIME. The sponsorship competition will be divided into junior (18-19 years old), youth A (16-17 years old), and youth B (14-15 years old) in the men’s and women’s lead, bouldering, and speed events for a total of 10 days.

The competition will feature 765 athletes (596 athletes and 169 coaches) from 45 countries around the world. It is an international competition to find promising sports climbing players and is a youth world championship held in Seoul.

Sohn Joong-ho, president of the Korea Mountain Federation, said, “We will strive to create a successful international competition where promising sports climbers can grow and develop further.”

Star athletes representing sports climbing at home and abroad, including Kim Ja-in, who won the 31st World Cup, and Seo Chae-hyun, the 2021 IFSC World Championship, have grown through this tournament.

In August last year, Kim Chae-young (Gyeonggi, Geumpa Middle School) won the gold medal in the women’s lead youth B category at the 2022 IFSC World Youth Championships in Dallas, USA, and Oh Ah-young (Incheon, Munhak Information Report) won the bronze medal in the youth A category.

The event will be held at the Seoul Mountain Culture Experience Center, where you can remember the late Captain Park Young-seok, who died in an accident while pioneering a new route in Annapurna Nam-myeon (8091m) on October 18, 2011.
