Lease Contract Extended After District Championship Confirmed

The 29th (Korean time) was truly the best day for Baltimore Orioles fans.

Baltimore won 2-0 at home against the Boston Red Sox at Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland.

Baltimore recorded 100-59 with the victory, pushing the Tampa Bay Rays, who did not play on the day, by three games.

Even though Baltimore lost all of the remaining games and Tampa Bay recorded all wins and was tied at 100 wins, Baltimore was ahead of the team with 8 wins and 5 losses in the season, confirming the division championship.

With this victory, they became the sixth team to reach 100 wins in their history, and won the district championship for the first time since 2014.

Baltimore took the victory on this day with starting pitcher Dean Kremer pitching 5 1/3 innings, allowing 2 hits, 1 walk, 8 strikeouts, and no runs, while at the plate, Anthony Santander hit a solo home run in the 1st inning, and Heston Custard hit an RBI double in the 8th.

Another happy thing happened. The Orioles announced on the electronic display board during the game that they had agreed to a 30-year lease extension with the home state of Maryland.

On this day, Maryland Governor Wes Moore personally visited the stadium to commemorate the event. The moment the extension agreement was announced, team owner John Angelos appeared on the electronic display board to celebrate it.

The Orioles’ lease at Camden Yards was scheduled to expire after this season.

The Angelos family, which owns the club, confirmed that there would be no relocation, but as the announcement of the lease extension was delayed, anxiety was growing. In the end, the contract extension was announced only toward the end of the season.
