“Big Merit for Our Team” Point Guard Transformation, Multiplayer Moon Jung-hyun’s Value

Multiplayer Moon Jung-hyun (23, 194cm) has turned into a point guard.

A facility inspection match between Suwon KT and Ulsan Hyundai Mobis took place at Suwon KT Sonicboom Arena on Wednesday. KT showed off an interesting lineup midway through the first quarter. It also deployed Moon Jung-hyun, Han Hee-won, Moon Sung-gon, Ha Yoon-ki and Ration Hammons. It filled the court with three forwards, one big man and a foreign player without a guard.

In the offseason, Jung Sung-woo, who was qualified as a free agent, moved to Daegu Korea Gas Corporation. Heo Hoon was unable to play in the match against Hyundai Mobis due to wrist injury. Choi Chang-jin and Choi Jin-kwang were in the entry, but they did not show satisfactory performance in offseason practice games.

KT is able to display a lineup without guards because of Moon’s presence. Moon, who is 194 centimeters tall, is capable of handling balls and dribbling, which does not lag behind guards. He also has a wide field of view and is good at playing games to save his teammates. In fact, he can play young positions such as shooting guard, small forward, and power forward. KT coach Song Young-jin appointed Moon as point guard after judging that backup guards including Choi Chang-jin and Choi Jin-kwang are not as competitive.

Moon was matched up with Park Moo-bin from the same class as Korea University. He was matched up with the point guard of the opposing team, but faced off in the face-to-face confrontation as he was able to play outside defense. As soon as he was deployed, he also strongly pressured Park and committed a foul. In offense, he used a miss match with Park to score under the basket following the post-up. He also showed stable ball guard and crossed the half-line with the ball.

In the second half of the year, Moon again served as the point guard and worked with Han Hee-won, Moon Sung-gon, Ha Yoon-ki, and Hammonds. He matched with Han Ho-bin, Seo Myung-jin, and Miguel Andre Okzon, but managed to defend without much difficulty. He also used mismatches twice to score points in offense. When looking at the match, he showed that he can sufficiently play as a point guard.

Moon played 19 minutes and 34 seconds, scoring 10 points, rebounds, and two assists and one steal. One 3-pointer missed the rim, but he made four 2-pointers and succeeded in all of them. He fulfilled manager Song Young-jin’s orders 100 percent, helping KT win 87-85.
